I decided to stop here for a Saturday night after finding the campsite I wanted to stop at to be full.
As you pull in you need to check in, which did take a while and you needed to sign quite a pit of paperwork, which I found strange for a campsite! There were two items that should have given me a clue that there are better places to stop for the night, the fist was a no refund policy, the second was a noise acceptance as the freeway was close to the site.
I then had to cough up $50.00 for the night!!! Come on, this may be close to the beach but its closer to the freeway and in my opinion I would rather spend a bit more for a motel or far less and hit one of the state parks close by.
After checking in (and being give a thing to hang from my rear view mirror – which I then ignored as I would have to go and buy a car first) finding the pitch was easy. It looked like every pitch had a fire pit, table and water.
So far I was totally underwhelmed, my pitch was about fifty yards from the 101 freeway, the pitch was tiny (as I didn’t have anyone either side this didn’t bother me, but if the place was full it would have been a little too cramped) and there was a band playing live music which was competing with the freeway noise.
Things got much better once I had the tent up and went for a walk around. The bathrooms were very clean, there were nice showers and the little store had the necessities (beer, firewood, cooking fuel etc), and there was a pool and hot tub (open till 10pm). The security dudes where in evidence, but were friendly and very helpful.
The other major plus it the location, you are very close to down town with plenty of restaurants, bars, and strangely, good will shops.
Overall I would not stop here again unless I was desperately in need of a shower and didn’t want to get a motel room. If the price had been a bit more reasonable I think this would be a great spot to spend a day or two.
Close to the freeway.
